Dear Stroke...

This is another poem from my anger phase. It's pretty long, so I thought I would share it on my blog instead of the Poetry page. Hope you like it.

Dear Stroke, I Hate You

By K. K. Schmidt

You crept in like a murderer,

No warning. No sound.

One heartbeat I was living—

The next, I hit the ground.

You fed upon my future,

Gnawed clean through every dream.

Then left me in the wreckage

To hear my own heart scream.

You stole the words I carried.

You crippled trusted bone.

You turned a crowded world into

A kingdom of alone.

I hate the way you linger.

The ghost beneath my skin.

The war begins each morning

Before the day’s begin.

I hate the endless questions.

“Are you okay today?”

As if this living nightmare

Could simply fade away.

You made strangers pity me.

You made old friends disappear.

You dressed me up in silence

And stitched me into fear.

You’ve taken names and memories,

Moments I’ll never reclaim.

Then dared to call survival

Anything but pain.

If hell has hands, they’re yours.

Cold fingers wrapped so tight.

You feast upon the daylight

And choke it into night.

But listen well, you parasite—

Though every breath is scarred,

You’ll never hear me thank you

For making life this hard.

I’ll hate you until my dying day.

I’ll curse your wicked art.

Because you didn’t just attack my brain—

You tried to bury my heart.
